Position Summary: The selected candidate will source and expedite the purchase of domestic and/or international, medium to high-risk and medium to high-cost supplies, equipment, parts and services. May specialize in IT, scientific, MRO (maintenance, repairs and operations) capital equipment, institutional services and equipment maintenance agreements; draft, review; negotiate, and execute contracts; work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to identify solutions that support operational requirements while reducing total cost of ownership. Will ensure risk mitigation by modifying and negotiating contracts for protection of property, liability, intellectual property. May perform special duties including the purchase and management of controlled substance orders, precursor chemicals, software licensing agreements; the coordination of consignment supply programs, ensuring supplier compliance with federal regulations; the facilitation of lab relocations and assistance for labs with importation of equipment and biologicals/plants through USDA, FDA and US Customs; or the assistance in the management of ongoing service contracts with third-party suppliers (e.g. facilities/building services, shipping/receiving, etc.).
Additional Information: Position is expected to last approximately 3 months.

Skills / Requirements


Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Requires a minimum of five years of procurement experience in a research, educational, or government-funded organization. Must have focused experience in a scientific, IT, MRO, software licensing, or other specialty commodity areas and must have demonstrated skills and experience with sourcing, strategic negotiations, contractual language addressing liability, intellectual property, and risk management awareness. Strong working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, Exchange, Outlook) is required, as well as experience using ERP and procurement systems and other specialized software as required (such as Ariba, BiTech, SciQuest). Must understand cost drivers, market influences, negotiation strategy; must be confident in working cross-functionally while engaging supplier's high level management; must demonstrate a medium to advanced understanding of operational issues, SOPs, performance standards, culture, and other environment aspects that influence procurement; and must have a thorough understanding of the requisition to check process, including the relationships and integration points. The selected candidate must be able to organize thoughts, convey information effectively, present to small and medium sized groups with focus and poise; understand a variety of channels to convey to others; must possess strong grammar and analytical skills; identify and correct process errors; apply and generalize corrective actions to new situations; make suggestions that lead to more efficient work processes; perform data mining to acquire market intelligence as it pertains to a category; and must demonstrate integrity/ethics at highest levels in all aspects of role.
Preferred Qualifications: Certified Procurement Manager (C.P.M.) or Certified Purchasing and Supply Management (C.P.S.M.) preferred.
Florida & Palm Beach County residents are preferred.
