ChildNet, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit community-based care (CBC) agency servicing Broward and Palm Beach County. We are contracted with the State of Florida, Department of Children and Families, to provide case management support to abused, abandoned, and neglected children. ChildNet is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and employs over 450 staff at its location in Ft Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Florida.

Qualifications:

This position assists ChildNet’s legal department with legal matters that require special training and knowledge.

Responsibilities:

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Researches and analyzes law sources, e.g. statutes, recorded judicial decisions, constitution, legal codes, treaties and articles by:

  • Investigate facts as requested by attorney and prepare information accordingly.
  • Track legislative actions relevant to ChildNet.
  • Prepare and maintain files concerning legal inquiries, responses, various legal documents, and correspondence.
  • Redact sensitive and confidential information from legal documents.
  • Prepare legal documents as needed for civil litigation matters. 
  • Perform computer related tasks requiring broad working knowledge of a wide variety of standard computer applications, e.g. Microsoft Word, excel, power point, report presentation packages, calendar schedulers, electronic file maintenance, legal research internet services.
  • Perform skilled administrative tasks requiring use of standard automated office systems, e.g., computers, telephones, facsimile machines, photocopiers, calculators, adding machines, scanners.
  • Function as liaison between legal department to supervisors, professional staff, department head, other departments, and outside agencies, gathering and relaying information as needed.
  • Establish and maintain department logs, budget(s), records maintenance procedures, and electronic filing systems to ensure efficient department operations.
  • Track, inventory and address public records Chapter 119 request in accordance with ChildNets policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the calendar and schedules for the legal department.
  • Perform other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, composing and typing routine correspondence, recording meeting minutes and reading and routing incoming mail.
  • Recognize, respect and respond to the unique, culturally-defined needs of others served.
  • Write clearly and informatively; edit work for spelling and grammar; vary writing style to meet needs; able to read and interpret written information.
  • Demonstrate problem solving skill; identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully.

Skill / Requirements

*Associates Degree (Preferred).

* Three(3) years of experience in the legal field as a Paralegal. Experience should include litigation and extensive knowledge of office technologies; Proficient in Microsoft Word,  Excel, Outlook, and Client/Data Management Systems.

* Certification or Diploma as a Paralegal preferred.
