- ATTENTION: To be considered for employment with the City of Boca Raton, applicants must provide at least ten (10) years of continuous employment history, if applicable. In the event the applicant has not been employed for 10 continuous years, all time for the 10 year period prior to the date of application must be accounted for including periods of school, unemployment and retirement.
Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Schedule may vary as needed between these hours
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:Performs responsible human support work in supervising, leading and directing children's group activities; performs related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:Establishes and maintains control and safety of an assigned group of children; ensures compliance of rules and regulations;
Keeps equipment and supplies orderly and in good condition;
Maintains attendance records;
Helps children develop socialization skills;
Leads and directs sports, games, activities and special events;
Compiles accurate information on participant accidents.
GAP Program counselors must be able to work all Palm Beach County School Board holidays and teacher workdays.RELATED TASKS:Keeps assigned activity areas clean and orderly;
Takes frequent child counts;
Interacts positively with participants; acts as a positive role model;
Performs related tasks as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:General knowledge of sports, games, arts and crafts and low-level recreational activities; general knowledge of child development and related socialization skills; ability to maintain control over a group of children; ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants and the general public; ability to effectively communicate orally.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and six (6) months of experience in leading groups of children in a variety of activities.
CERTIFICATIONS / PROFESSIONAL LICENSES:
First Aid certification required within three (3) months of date of hire.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to lift and carry articles weighing up to 50 lbs.
POST-OFFER BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
Must pass a Level II background check, which includes a FDLE and FBI fingerprint check pursuant to F.S. 435, in addition to the City's background investigation and drug test.
